At Bryanston, the values of access and inclusivity are interwoven into the very essence of our culture. Founded by a visionary and nurtured by countless others, we are dedicated to creating an environment where every child can thrive, regardless of their background. When we welcome pupils from diverse social backgrounds, it not only enriches their lives but also brings immense benefits to our entire school family. We wholeheartedly believe that embracing diversity nurtures creative thinking. Our mission is to cultivate in our pupils a spirit of curiosity, inquiry, and boundless creative thinking. We aim to build their self-belief and instil unwavering confidence in embracing their true selves. Our focus is not on privileged superiority, but on empowering every young mind with the understanding that they possess the potential to make a difference in the world, both in remarkable and subtle ways. Today, it is more important than ever to open our doors to talented children, regardless of their financial circumstances. We recognise that an exceptional education has the power to transform lives and break down barriers. As Bryanston looks towards our centenary in 2028, it is the perfect time to unite as a community and expand our Bursary Fund, enabling us to increase our ability to offer places to deserving students. Join us in igniting a movement where access barriers are dismantled, and limitless potential is unleashed. Together, let's shape a brighter and more inclusive future. At Bryanston, we embrace diversity, empower young minds, and redefine what is possible. When a pupil joins Bryanston on a bursary, their presence sets off a chain reaction, positively impacting those around them and bringing life-affirming changes for their families.

why?
Why NOW?
The world needs creative thinkers – in science, technology, and economics as much as in the humanities.
This need is greater than ever as we face the numerous problems besetting us right now. Yet mainstream education suppresses creative thinking in our children. 98% of children are creative geniuses at age three; by ten, 30% are genius level. At 15, 12%. By age 31, 2%. There are many reasons for this decline. League tables, learning by rote, antiquated ideas about literacy and numeracy, and a determination to ascribe a monetary value to educational achievements have all contributed.
1 Long term - Endowment Fundraising £2.5m pa 2 Immediate - Spend now Fundraising £2.5m pa Bryanston is not a school blessed with a large Foundation. Opening Bryanston to children from all social backgrounds would obviously benefit them, but it would also benefit the whole school. Creative thinking is stimulated and enriched by diversity.
This will be a huge statement of intent from a leading independent school. We are for social mobility, for extending our educational ideals as far and wide as we can, and against the narrowing of thought and creativity, and against the limiting of the best in education to the most privileged in society. To support 100 pupils on 100%+ requires an annual philanthropic income of £5m. This is no small task but with everyone doing what they can, gifts of all amounts matter and collectively enable wonderful things to happen.
To overcome this barrier, we need to offer far more fully funded places. The goal is to reach 70.
This will be achieved through two different funding models. Both hugely important and offering choice to donors they will generate funds to support 100 students to participate fully in a Bryanston education.
We are not a school for the faint-hearted. Let’s not be timid in this instance. We can do this, if we commit our tremendous creative intelligence to our goal.
Bryanston as an independent school can resist all these damaging trends. Instead, we can focus on sustaining and growing children’s creative intelligence. Our list of alumni shows how successful we’ve been over the past 96 years. But as an independent school, we create one major barrier for ourselves. Our education would benefit a far wider range of children than just those whose parents can afford it. To support 70 pupils on 100%+ requires an annual philanthropic income of £3.5m. This can be done via two different pathways, thus allowing our donors choice and flexibility in their giving. "This is no small task but with everyone doing what they can, gifts of all amounts matter and collectively enable wonderful things to happen." Pathway 1. The Bryanston Foundation has a current value of £3m. To support 35 pupils at Bryanston for 5 years, this needs to grow to £35m+. Realising £1.75m per annum, this endowment will bring financial resilience, sustainability and in perpetuity support to the programme. Pathway 2. Through pledges and annual fundraising, we must raise ££1.75m per annum to match the endowment income, and enable a further 35 pupils to access a Bryanston education. How to Give It is easy, simple and safe to donate to Bryanston by credit card, cheque in person or by bank transfer. Social mobility sits at the core of Bryanston 100 and through our networks of school and charitable partners both in the UK and around the world we are confident we have the ability to identify and encourage those with the talent, potential and ability to thrive at Bryanston to join us, regardless of their financial background. Our partnership with Royal Springboard is a testament to our commitment to this mission. They provide life-transforming opportunities for disadvantaged and vulnerable young people, many of whom are either in care, on the edge of care, or are from areas with high levels of social deprivation across the UK. Working closely with us to help identify young individuals who would benefit most from the positive impact of a boarding school environment, we are delighted to announce that four students from this programme will join us at the start of the next academic year. The ripple effect of supporting just one student to experience the transformational opportunities of a Bryanston education extends to at least 20 members of their family, including future generations. But it doesn’t end there. The invaluable diversity of thought and awareness these students bring to the Bryanston family is immeasurable. Bryanston is enriched by diversity and creative thinking is stimulated by people from all backgrounds. What a remarkable gift your support could have on the entire Bryanston family!

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT
Opportunity is the cornerstone of Bryanston's principles. Enabling pupils to discover and pursue their talents, regardless of their circumstances, remains as vital today as ever. Our approach to education stands unrivalled, blending innovation, creativity, and uniqueness that we can all be proud of. Talent knows no boundaries, yet opportunity is unequally distributed. In the 21st century, social mobility stands as a crucial challenge in our society. Bryanston has a rich heritage of providing opportunities to those with untapped potential, surpassing financial limitations. But we aspire to do more. This campaign will do just that, building on our history of extending life-changing opportunities to gifted young individuals. As we approach our centenary in 2028, this ambitious fundraising effort places social mobility at the heart of our educational philosophy. By empowering individuals, we unleash their full potential to create a positive impact on the world. Community strength lies in diversity. By expanding access and embracing pupils from all backgrounds, this campaign sparks the beginning of a brighter future for all through the transformative power of education. A school is not just a building; it is a community, a family. Its strength lies in the contributions of each unique individual. Together, we can make a difference and shape a brighter tomorrow for generations to come. Your support would be truly remarkable. Thank you. THE TEAM
Bryanston was not founded by a wealthy patron, as many schools are, but it was established through bank loans. Despite lacking a large endowment fund for our Bursary programme’s sustainable income, ambitious thinking persists, and this campaign will reverse our situation. The Bryanston Foundation unites the Development Office and the eight Foundation Trustees into a powerful team. Serving as the philanthropic engine of Bryanston, this group alongside ambassadors and our key supporters, will focus efforts on raising the substantial funds needed. The goal is to secure our bursary programme in perpetuity, ensuring no future Bryanstonian is turned away due to their family’s financial situation. Below are some members of this group.
Peter Hardy Former Second Master, OB Ambasador and Bryanston School Foundation Trustee
Mabel McKeown Bryanston Governor and Chair, Bryanston School Foundation

the bryanston promise
the Bryanston Promise
Schools hold all our futures in their hands. Education is the cornerstone of civilisation and has the power to transform individuals and societies. It ends poverty, improves health and fights tyranny in the poorest countries; in the richest, it stimulates innovation, raises our consciousness and guards us, we hope, against the return of oppression. At Bryanston we make enduring and deep connections with the pupils in our care. We find out who these children are, what they can do, what will make them happy and what success means to them. We can nurture them through the whole of their time here, and form lifelong bonds. This is education at the highest level, and we are privileged to offer it. In a perfect world, all schools would be like this, but this world has yet to be created, and we want to extend this opportunity to more pupils.
This will be a huge statement of intent from a leading independent school. We are for social mobility, for extending our educational ideals as far and wide as we can, and against the narrowing of thought and creativity, and against the limiting of the best in education to the most privileged in society. We are not a school for the faint-hearted. Let’s not be timid in this instance. We can do this, if we commit our tremendous creative intelligence to our goal. To support 100 pupils on 100%+ requires an annual philanthropic income of £5m. This is no small task but with everyone doing what they can, gifts of all amounts matter and collectively enable wonderful things to happen.
Bryanston was founded by a visionary and has been the home for many more. We are determined to preserve and develop our pupils questioning, curious, creative minds. To encourage self-belief and confidence to be yourself. Not the arrogance of privilege, but the sure and certain knowledge that if you set out to change the world, in ways great and small, you can do it. An Old Bryanstonian in not recognisable by their manner, their air of superiority, their connections or their old school tie. They do not impose their ideas on others, though they may inspire those around them. They are the instead the embodiment of the spirit of enquiry, of the positive challenge to convention and of creating thinking. If pupils leave Bryanston inspired, stimulated, and liberated to create and follow their own vision for themselves throughout their lives we have succeeded. Bryanston lives in the present, learns from its past and looks to the future. Et Nova Et Vetera – our motto still embodies all that we do.
