Respect Social awareness Innovation
Bryanston Prep inspires a lifelong love of learning in each and every pupil.
Our pupils are confident, engaged, collaborative learners. They are empathetic, compassionate people who will be among the leaders of their generation.
our philosophy
We believe that a school should inspire a love of learning while promoting social growth, emotional awareness, intellectual development and creativity. Our school is set in the beautiful Dorset countryside, and we make the most of it. Education should not be confined to a classroom and a desk. Our children are outdoors as much as possible, learning from and in nature. Exploration and inquiry are key ingredients of our academic curriculum and extra-curricular offering, both in the outdoors and in the classroom, in the arts, the sciences and on our Adventure Training programme. The teachers at Bryanston Prep direct and guide, based on understanding each child’s learning disposition – the way they go about learning. To achieve these goals, Bryanston Prep selects outstanding teachers and supports them with the highest quality professional development. We prepare all our children for a fast, evolving and dynamic world. We are both forward-thinking and outward-looking. Bryanston Prep lays the foundations for children to become adults with a social and moral compass in a society that needs creative, inspired and unbounded thinking. We promote kindness to, and cooperation with, all members of the school community, including pupils, parents, staff and our neighbours. We help pupils become good, inclusive citizens with a sense of responsibility and respect for others. Bryanston Prep encourages a sense of community that helps each child and family feel connected and valued. We are the prep school for Bryanston, but we know that not all our pupils will go on to study there. When the time comes to move on to a senior school, we work with each child and their family to find the right place for them. Our focus on the individual enables us to help parents to find the right senior school for their child, where they will be most happy, and can continue their education in an environment that suits their particular way of learning.

Welcome to bryanston prep
At the edge of Bryanston’s estate and set within thirty acres of safe, stunning Dorset countryside, Bryanston Prep is within walking distance from Bryanston senior school. We’re small enough for everyone to know each other, while benefitting from the extensive facilities of the senior school. From three to thirteen, our pupils have some of the best sports and recreational facilities of any school in the UK. It’s a perfect balance: small classes, big resources. Our pupils benefit from being taught by prep school specialist teachers, supplemented routinely and for one-off events by staff from the senior school, who are experts in their field. They have an idyllic place that they can call their own, while taking full advantage of the incredible resources right on their doorstep. The scale and quality of the activities programme provided allows every pupil – day or boarding – to broaden their skills, and experience and discover new things they’ll love.

Welcome to bryanston knighton house
As the younger sibling within the Bryanston family, we are the first step for our pupils to experience a creative education, discover their individual spirit and feel the excitement of unbounded thinking. Our pupils come from both the local area and from all over the world. We take very seriously our responsibility as a fun, supportive home-from-home. The children have complete freedom to explore the grounds and enjoy our picturesque orchard, whilst looking after chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits and our beloved ponies.
“Full of creative thinking, adventure and joy where individuals are appreciated for who they are.”
Head of Bryanston Prep
Bryanston Prep classes are small and don’t go over eighteen pupils. Our prep school specialist teachers work alongside subject specialists from the senior school to deliver the curriculum. Every member of staff is an expert in their field and delivers lessons tailored to each pupil’s individual needs. We ensure every child has a good grounding in the core subjects and experience in specialist areas before moving on to study further. This gradual exposure to specialist teaching allows pupils to make good progress in the many subjects they will pursue in senior school. DT is a good example of this. Our Year 7 and 8 pupils are taught every week in the senior school workshop by senior school staff; and equally the senior school Director of Sport and Head of PE run a weekly coaching session for our seniors year-round. The Head of Outdoor Education & Pioneering and his team run a fantastic Adventure Training programme for Bryanston Prep pupils. Helping children discover what inspires them is central to what we do at Bryanston Prep. In the classroom, in activities or in the exceptional sports, music and drama facilities of Bryanston, our pupils develop their interests and find activities they’ll love throughout their school days. For many, it’s the start of a journey that sees them going on to perform at the highest level.

“Bryanston Prep is special to me because it gave me a chance to explore and put my ideas out there. The teachers are all very friendly and give one-to-one feedback. The boarding gives you a sense that you’re at home and taken care of!”
Pupil of Bryanston Prep
Bryanston Prep sits on a gentle slope above Durweston village, with a glorious view over the Stour Valley and Dorset hills. The school is a walk or quick bike ride down the hill from Bryanston’s senior school campus. We’re set in 30 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside, two miles from Blandford Forum. By car from London, you take the M3 and then either the M27 and A31 via the New Forest — or the A303, A343 and A354 via Salisbury and the Cranborne Chase. The nearest stations are Tisbury or Salisbury to the north and Poole to the south. Bournemouth International Airport is forty minutes by car, Southampton is an hour, London Heathrow, Gatwick and Bristol are all roughly two hours by car. Our postcode is DT11 0PY.
where we discover new things
where we Are
The range of activities on offer at Bryanston and in the prep school is truly exceptional. We have both formal co- curricular options and the opportunity for children to create their own games and adventures, learning as they play. From hockey, football and horse riding, to building dens, beekeeping and wall climbing, our safe and secure site is a wonderful playground for children to explore. For most of our pupils, the best thing about Bryanston Prep is time spent with friends. Our children form firm friendships from the start, learning and growing together and enjoying unforgettable experiences that will live with them forever.
where children can be children
Throughout the day, boarding and day pupils can use our indoor facilities including the dining room, library, music and quiet rooms. Outside, we have our own sports grounds, play areas and orchards where all children across the age groups make dens, climb trees, look after animals and let off steam. Our prep school is a home-from-home for both day and boarding pupils, and we promote a caring and loving environment where we all look out for each other and ensure everyone knows who to ask for help. Our dormitories are homely and allow each child to have their own space. Meals are taken either in our dining room or sometimes with the older pupils in Bryanston’s main dining hall – a very popular option! This culture of support means that our pupils are confident, eager to try new things, polite and well-mannered. In fact, we will go further: they are brimming with character! Bryanston Prep staff are on hand around the clock to deal with all eventualities, including Bryanston’s fully staffed Medical Centre with full-time nurses and regular doctors’ surgeries. Our prep boarding staff are on call and are happy to sort any worries, concerns or just have a general catch up and chat. We pride ourselves that everyone feels listened to. This helps our school family feel happy, secure and well looked after every day. For the children who board with us, a good connection with home is essential for both children and parents. We are happy for children to use the school Wi-Fi to keep in touch with parents and grandparents at whatever time of day is appropriate for families in different time zones.
