CRANLEIGH'S CULTURE
EX CULTU ROBUR FROM CULTURE COMES STRENGTH
With our school’s culture front and centre, our aim is the creation of a global family of Cranleigh Schools with an inner strength and shared soul and spirit which inspires our pupils, students and teachers to strive and to thrive."

Taking on an international project as a partner UK school is not easy. Getting it right is still more difficult, even if you are an outstanding UK school like Cranleigh. Having such a global impact in so few years has exceeded even our expectations: our first overseas school, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, which opened in 2014 was named the Best New International School of the Year in 2017 by the UK’s Times Educational Supplement (TES), and in 2020 it was promoted to the Spear’s 500 School Index as one of the best private schools in the world. In 2022 Cranleigh Abu Dhabi has once again been named as a ‘Top Flight’ School in the Middle East by Spear’s, which puts it on a par with the likes of Deerfield Academy in the US and Eton College in the UK.
“The soft power of culture – poetically charged words, images, music - exerts a force beyond the workaday stuff of politics. Culture can do this because it can connect with human habits, needs and intuitions.” Sir Simon Schama CBE FBA FRSL
Adrian Lajtha, Chair of the Governing Body, Cranleigh UK

INSPIRATIONAL SCHOOL LEADERS
Cranleigh International is ambitious and we are proud of what we, with our partners, have achieved to date: five schools on three continents, educating 3,500 students, employing 400 teachers and educational leaders, sending graduates to the world’s leading universities.”
For us ‘the right way’ means focusing on the needs of students, offering the rich learning ecosystem being developed at Cranleigh UK in schools where it can grow to transform the life chances of young people with partners who share our values.
What is the ‘right way’?

Perhaps the most important task of the Cranleigh Governing Body is the appointment of the ‘Founding Head’ for each new international school. Every founding Headteacher takes up his or her post at least one academic year prior to the school opening. Time is spent recruiting the founding academic and support teams while building professional relationships with fellow Heads and colleagues from Cranleigh International and our partners. We look for experienced educators who are team builders and team players, who exude vision and humility and who share our ambition to establish one of the world’s greatest schools. Inspirational school leaders create inspirational schools!

CRANLEIGH'S PARTNERS
Our partnership with Aldar Education, the leading education group in Abu Dhabi has been an outstanding success. As the group’s flagship school, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi has grown impressively: in September 2022 ground was broken at a new site on Saadiyat Island for the construction of our new pre - prep school, which will enable us to take the school population to more than 2,000 students. Cranleigh Abu Dhabi Principal, Mike Wilson, has now also joined the Board of Aldar Education as Executive Principal of Cranleigh Abu Dhabi, with a brief to start new Cranleigh Schools in GCC (Gulf Cooperation Councils) territories.
“Cranleigh was exactly the right partner for Cogdel. Their International team support and their focus both on academic standards and student needs is spot on” – Adam McRoy, Principal, Cogdel Cranleigh International School, Changsha, China.

"Our students are growing up in a fast-changing, hyper-connected and complex world which is experiencing a new era of political power dynamics. More than ever, we need to equip our young people with the skills to engage with other cultures. "Our partnerships with Aldar Education and the Cogdel Education Group enable them to do just that”

The flexibility of the Cranleigh model can be seen in the recent agreement with Cogdel Education, one of the most successful operators of international sections in Chinese curriculum schools. Having considered a number of UK schools with which to partner, Cogdel found what they needed in Cranleigh. We not only had the right academic credentials, but also put ‘the whole child’ at the centre of our approach to education, which is exactly what they and their parents wanted. The first Cogdel Cranleigh International School opened in Changsha in 2020, and the second in Wuhan in 2022.

For me, the purpose of education is to encourage human flourishing. Our students are growing up in a fast-changing, hyper-connected and complex global economy which is experiencing a new era of political power dynamics. More than ever, we need to equip our young people with the skills to engage with other cultures. Connect with students in our overseas schools is a very useful first stepping stone in this process." – MARTIN READER, HEADMASTER, CRANLEIGH UK

CRANLEIGH'S TEACHERS
"The teachers’ confidence in the Cranleigh name is one of the fundamental reasons for our success. An average annual staff turnover at Cranleigh Abu Dhabi of 10% is less than half the average rate across the UAE." Mike Wilson, Executive Principal, Cranleigh Abu Dhabi.
Teaching at Cranleigh not only prepares or our students for university, but also for life.
The retention and training of great teachers is one of the keys to the success of our young international schools. We help teachers settle quickly, enabling them to give of their very best to their students from day one.

CRANLEIGH'S GRADUATES
Our careers advisory, college counselling and university placement services are exceptionally advanced and forward-thinking. The result . . . placement of our graduates in many of the world’s leading universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, the Russell Group of universities in the UK and Ivy League schools in the USA. In addition, our international graduates are able to take advantage of a huge global network of Cranleighan mentors, who support our young people at the outset of their careers.
“It’s not just the results, but it’s the way that our young people achieve these results – by learning to question, think and to give generously of themselves while getting the most out of life. "It’s now a joy to see this happening in our international schools”
